For every classic rock act that flamed out—or, more appropriately, had a key member drown in his own vomit—a horde of remastered, redigitized, and remarketed wreckage that should never see the light of day creeps its way onto store shelves. But in Led Zeppelin DVD, this four-course meal of concert footage nobly focuses on the music, gleaned from four shows—Royal Albert Hall in 1970, Madison Square Garden in 1973, Earls Court in 1975, and Knebworth in 1979—that comprise the core of the DVD’s material. Watch as the band transforms from sheepish striplings early in their careers (Albert Hall) to the sold-out centerpiece of elaborate stage shows worldwide (Knebworth). Plenty of rare, extra footage is also made more remarkable by the band’s very deliberate avoidance of the public at the time. As close to a must-have as there is for music fans—and an absolute must for Zeppelin fans.
