This is either the most brilliant or most infuriating DVD we’ve ever seen—we’re still not sure which. As weird, convoluted, and challenging as the movie itself, Memento: Limited Edition could very well be the most special features-laden disc on the market, if we could only figure out how to access them.

Designed to look like a series of psychological evaluations, the animated menus on both discs don’t lead you to supplemental materials, they make you work for them. Following clues found not only on the disc itself, but within the pages of the “folder” on the DVD package, you try to slowly piece it all together. But, like the film, the search is almost as fun as the prize (assuming you aren’t in too much of a hurry—and don’t worry, if all you want to do is watch the movie, you won’t have to search too hard). If nothing else, it’s great to see home video presentation getting as much thought put into it as the movie itself, even if it means having to answer questions like “Which of the following objects represents ‘anger’ to you?”
