Ever since he won us over by molesting mom’s apple pie, Jason Biggs seemed to be heading into Chevy Chase territory with shockingly bad stinkers like Loser and Boys and Girls. With Saving Silverman he rises from the ashes and nails himself another funny movie. But it might just be because he doesn’t have to pull the weight of this movie on his own. Veteran comedians Steve Zahn (as the racoon-wrangling Wayne) and Jack Black (as the beer-bong-wrangling J.D.) join Biggs and send you into fits of laughter with little more than a look and a shriek.
The script—absurd and ridiculous as it is—scores some big laughs. When beautiful she-devil Judith (Amanda Peet) proposes marriage to Darren Silverman (Biggs), his best friends and fellow Neil Diamond–cover band members (Zahn and Black) try to save him from Judith’s evil clutches. They decide to kidnap Judith and pursuade Darren to fall in love with perky, golden-hearted Sandy (Amanda Detmer), who turns out to be—dude!—a huge Neil Diamond fan. Here at Maxim Online, fluffy animal attacks, foul-mouthed nuns, and kick-boxing hotties in heels are the stuff dreams are made of. How could we not love a movie in which the words “man juice” are uttered within the first two minutes?
