Scary Movie 2

Much like the first installment, Scary Movie 2 is a poop/piss/vomit-obsessed parody of everything from The Haunting and Charlie’s Angels to Nike ads and The Weakest Link. And, much like the first installment, the ratio of funny gags to bombs is too uneven for us to recommend it too highly. There’s definitely some good stuff here (the opening Exorcist parody with James Woods plays well), but too often the jokes are obvious, lame, or just plain idiotic.

Reuniting much of the original cast (Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans) with some career-casuality newcomers (soon-to-be-Hollywood Square Chris Elliot, walking casting joke Tori Spelling, and parody fixture Tim Curry), Scary Movie 2 tries to cram so much into its hour-and-a-half running time that it starts shooting at too-easy targets (do you really have to make fun of Dude, Where’s My Car?). In the right mood or under heavy sedation you might catch a laugh or two, but the Wayans probably could have saved some money and heeded the tagline of the first Scary Movie: No mercy. No shame. No sequel.
