Who better to fill the shoes of Cary Grant than Marky Mark himself? In this remake of the 60s thriller Charade, Joshua Peters (Mark Wahlberg) is the do-it-all mystery man there to sweep Regina Lambert (the unbelievably cute Thandie Newton) off her feet after her husband is murdered and mysterious strangers chase his fortune. Set in Paris, The Truth About Charlie only enforces how bad an actor Wahlberg is, as he struggles to emote in both English and French. Newton overplays her damsel-in-distress role, and Tim Robbins pops in and out in his terribly miscast role as some sort of über-agent. The story takes so many twists and turns that by the end, half of the loose ends arent tied up, and the other half have to be addressed in pointless jokes over the credits. Charlie isnt a complete failure if only because of Newtons prominence, just dont try to keep up, because you wont be rewarded.
