No motorcycles. No “Born to be Wild.” Just mobile homes and pen pals for geriatric Jack this road trip. Nicholson’s Warren Schmidt loses his wife of 42 years and is all on his own as he has to give away his daughter to a bumbling waterbed salesman. Hitting the road to get to the wedding, Schmidt learns all sorts of life lessons—and we have to hear about each one of them as he writes to his new best bud, a Tanzanian orphan he sponsors through one of those 1-800 TV-charity organizations. Watching Jack stumble around in his twilight years is the only amusement you’ll get out of this heavy story about “making a difference.” There’s also a Kathy Bates nude scene, which we can’t bring ourselves to discuss…
