Who says the skies are friendly? Judging from Flightplan, last month's RedEye, and what passes for food on a plane these days, Gitmo's more pleasant than the cabin of a Boeing 777. Haters calling this Panic Room in a plane should concentrate instead on Jodie Foster, who carries the film as a grieving mother traveling with daughter in tow. But instead of zoning out during the in-flight movie, Foster slowly loses her mind when the planes crew tries to convince her that there is no record of her little girl ever having been on the plane. Is Foster a few peanuts short of a snack bag or is something more sinister afoot? Amidst the madness, you'll get sucked in by Foster's performance, which walks the line between heroism and mental breakdown. Of course, we don't want to spoil the movie, but some of the plot twists defy rational thought, so make sure to check your brain in the overhead compartment. Still, with a bare bones script that doesn't waste a single frame, the lean Flightplan will force you to fasten your seat belt and hang on for a first-rate action thriller.
