In Her Shoes

Nowadays, when an actress wants to prove she's a serious thespian, she hides her hotness under 50 pounds. But instead of pulling a Being John Malkovich, Cameron Diaz has gone the other way, playing a bubble-headed party girl unafraid to show off her killer bod in In Her Shoes. And it's just as shocking as seeing Charlize Theron in Monster—by playing the Cameron we know and lust for, Diaz gives an award-winning performance, single-handedly turning this would-be chick flick into something you want to watch and can relate to. Curtis Hanson (who turned Eminem into a credible actor in 8 Mile) deserves a lot of the credit, cannily directing this story of two sisters, the aforementioned hotness and a dowdy, workaholic lawyer (Toni Collette), looking for love. By the time the two work out a dark family secret (sadly, it doesn't answer how they could have both come from the same gene pool) some of those nagging questions about what makes girls tick are answered. So, when your girlfriend drags you to this, go with an open mind—at the very least, it's quality time alone in the dark with Cameron Diaz.
