It would be easy to dismiss Eight Below as just another Disney dog flick for 12-year-old boys, but then you'd be missing one of the most incredible action-adventures the screen has seen in some time. Directed by Frank Marshall (producer of the Indy Jones trilogy and The Bourne Identity), this isn't just a cute pup movie—it's a tribute to survival, friendship, and the long-lasting bond between man and animal. When a team of explorers and scientists is forced to evacuate after the "storm of the century" arrives, the guide (Paul Walker) spends months trying to find a way back to the impenetrable region to rescue the loyal team of sled dogs that was inadvertently left behind. Most of the film, however, focuses on the stirring survival saga of these remarkable canines, actually 36 different dogs; the performances they give rival anything we've seen done by human actors.
