This is the Superman we have been waiting for. The Man of Steel has returned to form and is flying higher than ever. After a five-year disappearance, Superman (Brandon Routh) returns to a world desperately in need of his crime-fighting talents, especially with Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey) just sprung from prison. Then of course there's Superman's true love, Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth), now engaged and the mother of a young son of unspecified paternity. In this version, when he's not rescuing a plummeting jetliner with his bare hands, Superman is caught in a soap opera love triangle. Women are bound to flock to theaters for this movie, not only for its romantic emphasis, but also for Routh, who looks like one of those bland underwear models in a Bloomingdale's ad. Director Bryan Singer brings an intelligence and sense of drama to Superman, and in doing so, delivers not only an exciting superhero adventure but a powerfully human one as well.
