The Skinny: A mousy corporate accountant (Ewan McGregor) with no personal life meets a suave corporate lawyer (Hugh Jackman) who seemingly has all the money, connections, and tail one man can possible have. But once he's drawn into the world of high-end sex clubs and anonymous carnal encounters, McGregor's number cruncher learns that things are much different than they appear.
The Good: Though Deception follows the "erotic thriller" handbook step-by-step, the cast makes it work better than usual. McGregor and Jackman seem to have fun with their roles (particularly Jackman, who plays sinister for a change), and Michelle Williams impresses in the kind of femme fatale role you wouldn't expect of her.
The Bad: The wrap-up is a little sloppy, but overall it's a thriller that goes down smooth. It won't make your all-time favorites list, but it won't leave you demanding your 88 minutes back.
Ladies of the Night: Yes, some of Ewan's midnight callers include Natasha Henstridge, Maggie Q, and Charlotte Rampling. That's 62-year-old Charlotte Rampling. Take that, Michael Douglas!
Theater, DVD, or TNT in Five Years? It's a solid rental that'll, hopefully, inspire some midnight booty calls of your own.
