Much better than any movie the real Marilyn Monroe ever made.

The Pitch: A young guy strikes up a relationship with Marilyn Monroe (Michelle Williams) while working on film in the 1950s.

What It Really Is: Williams embodies Monroe as the flirty, insecure, confused, sexy icon. Even though the film is set up as a coming-of-age based around the young British guy whose name we didn’t even bother looking up, the film races by when the focus is on Monroe or Kenneth Branagh as Sir Laurence Olivier on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

Does Blu-ray Make A Difference? Yep. Set in old-timey England, it’s sharp and clean, which is more than we can say about actual old-timey England.

Special Features: Commentary with director Simon Curtis, “The Untold Story of an American Icon”; DVD copy of the film

Who’s It For: Those who never understood the appeal of Monroe; people who actually saw The Prince and The Showgirl, which is the movie being made in this movie
