The Skinny: Shout! Factory is celebrating the 20th anniversary of MST3K's TV premiere with a box set featuring four never-before-available episodes: First Spaceship on Venus, Laserblast, Werewolf, and Future War. There are also lobby cards and a little collectible Crow T. Robot figurine packaged in a big metal box.
The Good: Even though it's no longer on the air, this remains one of the funniest TV shows of all time. So any chance to revisit its greatness is welcome, and we're suckers for cool collectibles and shelf-beautifying DVD boxes. These four episodes are all vintage snark, and Shout! promises that this is the first of several box sets to come.
The Bad: We don't see anything here to complain about. Well, the individual DVDs are kind of tough to get out of the metal box, does that count? No, that's lame. But it's all we've got.
Best Extra: The extras themselves are all worthwhile, because they give you a soup-to-nuts history of how a couple of comics and some cheap puppets made legendary TV. The only downside is that nagging "why the hell didn't I think of this first?" feeling that you just can't shake.
Buy, Rent, or Give Away: This is a buy, either for yourself or as a gift for someone who will soon be your best friend ever.
