This is the season where one of the most brutally painful shows on TV, which details how creating beauty is disgustingly ugly, flirted dangerously close with becoming a soap opera. Along the way there are plenty of gory operations (a grossly obese patient fused to her couch), deviant sex acts (an unattractive, insecure woman being forced to wear a bag over her face during sex), and about 1,000 other moments guaranteed to make you as uncomfortable as a guy who just got his balls lifted and separated. Most of the 15 episodes keep it together, as they zero in on the Carver, a sicko who's been slicing up women and men for the past two years. But the season finale couldn't have been weaker, and almost destroyed what could have been the best season yet. The extras are sparse, which proves that the creators were probably just as disappointed as we were.
