Instead of flying jump kicks and nunchaku prowess, the hero of this Asian import exacts his revenge by extracting the teeth of his enemies with the claw end of a hammer. And that's only the beginning of the gruesome carnage that'll suck you into the overlooked Oldboy. But while the movie stands out so spectacularly, the extras remain simple. A commentary track with the flick's director, Chan-wook Park, stays painstakingly technical, calmly discussing lens work, set colors, and lighting—even during the grisly torture sequences. There are many deleted scenes that are just as entertaining as what made the final cut, but honest commentary helps explain their exclusion. An unrevealing five-minute classroom interview with Park rounds out the ordinary supplements. But while it's short on extras, you'll still want to pick up Oldboy for its twisted story—and its amazing close-ups of mutilations that'd make even Mr. Blonde squirm.
