Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior

Release Date:
Tuesday, August 30, 2005
Rated:
MPAA: R
Star Rating:
★★★★
Ong-Bak doesn't waste time wiring up its stars or sending in stunt men every time the kicks start flying. Instead, it unfolds at such a furious pace, and is choreographed so realistically, that you'll be sore by the time the sweat dries. Star Tony Jaa isn't as well known over here, but the extras offer plenty of testimony to his stardom on the other side of the globe. A frantic live performance in front of a screening audience in France shows his moves were no camera trick, as he kicks, punches, and runs through at least a dozen sparring partners. "8 Moves of Muay Thai" pits two fighters against each other like a live-action Mortal Kombat death match to offer examples of the technique's central moves. There's also insane B-roll with extra eye-opening stunts, including multiple takes of Jaa fighting off challengers with his legs on fire. If that's not enough, the Wu-Tang Clan's RZA gives his seal of approval with a special appearance in a promotional video—meaning it's perfect for both you and the children.
