If you thought your parents' honeymoon was a disaster (and if you're reading this, it was), you should get a load of the destruction that ravages an itinerant couple in Open Water. Looking to escape the grind, Susan (Blanchard Ryan) and Daniel (Daniel Travis) head off for a tropical island vacation. But when they sign up for early-morning scuba diving, their tour guides flub the head count and return home without them. The current immediately drags the couple out into the middle of nowhere, where they encounter all the problems of being stranded at sea: jellyfish, sharks, swimmer's ear. As scary as the situation is, the flick itself is dull. The sharks only offer sporadic attacks, and the floating, water-level camera angles provide a lone fleeting moment of terrortwo minutes of the stragglers screaming through a late-night thunderstorm while being encircled by sharksamid a lot of seasickness. Other than that, the two take turns freaking out, frantically swimming in circles, and blaming each other for being trapped so far from home. In other words, it's no different from every other romantic getaway you've ever been on.
