The Pitch: An escaped convict (Kevin Costner) forms a bond with a young boy he kidnapped while being chased by a tough but fair Texas Ranger (Clint Eastwood).

What It Really Is: One of Eastwood’s most touching and underrated movies. Costner is in rare form as a bad guy with a good heart and a great sense of humor. The relationship with the kid never gets creepy and it tackles the issue of abuse without being preachy.

Does Blu-ray Make a Difference? Sure. It has some graininess, but for the most part it’s nothing but blue skies, open road and lots of Texas haze.

Who’s It For: Guys looking for a journey of the heart as opposed to a shoot ‘em up action flick; guys who want to punch us for writing “journey of the heart” in the sentence before this one.

Another Eastwood Movie Hits Blu-ray For The First Time This Week: The unremarkable Blood Work [Blu-ray] is also out. It has Clint playing a retired FBI profiler and recent heart transplant recipient, investigates a mur
der. It came out in 2002 and can be filed in the “nice try” section of Eastwood’s voluminous offerings.
