Yo! What a movie! Spending time with this motley crew is probably the best reason there is to set sail for a multiplex all summer. Johnny Depp returns as one of the screen's most indelible creations, Captain Jack Sparrow, in the first of two sequels to Disney's 2003 blockbuster. This time around, Jack must find a way to pay his blood debt to Davy Jones (Bill Nighy), a villain who is half pirate and half sushi. Once again, he calls on Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) for help, effectively wrecking their wedding plans in the process. At two and a half hours, the film is too long, but it's hard not to raise a bottle of rum to the amazing CGI work. In fact, Dead Man's Chest is loaded with state-of-the-art visual effects that simply will blow you away. Not to be overlooked is the performance of Depp, whose irresistibly loopy Sparrow is the most loveable pirate since Willie Stargell. Although this edition stands on its own, it ends at an intermission that sets the audience up for the third installment due in May. Until then, these pirates are as good as gold in a genuine treasure trove of fun and high adventure. Enjoy, matey.
