"Primeval: Complete Seasons 1 and 2"

Release Date:
Tuesday, November 4, 2008
Star Rating:
★★★½
The Skinny: In this BBC series, mysterious portholes start popping up all over England, unleashing dinosaurs and other strange, ancient creatures into the modern world. It's like Jurassic Park meets, um, Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares? Sure, why not?

The Good: This is the perfect jumping on point for noobs as BBC preps the third season, or for those who don't have BBC America as part of their cable service. While the effects are not exactly blockbuster quality, they're good for a modest show like this. And although a lot of the show is utterly ridiculous, it is fun.

The Bad: Again, a good HD TV will make the CGI look a little dodgy in places, but, hell, you watched Xena: Warrior Princess and didn't balk.

Best Extra: "Primeval: Behind the Scenes" is long (45 minutes) but it's more informative, actually, than the commentaries. To tide you over, though, we have an exclusive behind-the-scenes clip featuring the show's adorable Hannah Spearritt.

Buy, Rent, or Ignore: Buy it, since the odds of Blockbuster stocking it are probably slim.
