The Skinny: A ragtag group of people with differing psychic powers (including Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning, and Camilla Belle) find themselves on the run from shadowy government agents and other super-powered peeps out for no good.

The Good: Unfairly buried under an avalanche of comic book movies, Push is actually a refreshingly gritty, more "real world" take on the whole "people with powers" idea. No costumes, no belabored origin stories, just people who can do amazing things forced to band together and fight for their lives. Evans is the de facto leader, and he once again proves he's got the charismatic, begrudging hero chops that Harrison Ford seems to have lost. Fanning is relaxed and funny in her first adult role, and it bodes well for her continuing career. The movie chugs at a good clip and is, no joke, just fucking beautiful in HD. Seriously, if you haven't upgraded yet, this is a good reason to do so.

The Bad: The final reel showdown is sloppy and doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense—but worse than either of those things, it threatens to derail the movie with a cliche superhero showdown. But overall, Push is a good time.

Best Extra: The audio commentary with director Paul McGuigan (along with Evans and Fanning) is worth a listen. Did you know Push scored some aerial Hong Kong footage from The Dark Knight crew?

Buy, Rent, or Ignore: This is a purchase, especially if you want to show off your new Blu-Ray player.
