What a piece of shit. Even if you agree with the politics and anti-war sentiment of Redacted, it's impossible to excuse the horrible acting and half-assed story. Brian De Palma (yeah, the guy who did Scarface and The Untouchables) revisits the same story he told in Casualties of War, in which soldiers rape and kill a young girl. Rather than utilizing the star power of Sean Penn and making a well-shot film, he goes the amateur route with unknown actors, horrible storytelling devices (fake YouTube videos? Really?), and the results make American soldiers look like borderline retards. If he would have taken his time and crafted a real movie, or even watched an episode of the grossly underrated FX show Over There, he may have been on to something. But, instead, he let his outrage against the war get in the way and the results are tragic.
