This military courtroom drama features a few more good men seething on the stand, defending Americas armed forces from evil, lily-livered bureaucrats. The movie opens with a couple of right-on action sequences, but soon succumbs to formula and becomes an episode of Sgt. McBeal.
Samuel Jackson stars as Col. Terry Childers, who resorts to deadly force against an armed, hostile crowd in the course of evacuating an American Embassy in Yemen. An inquiry ensues, and Childers is accused of murdering innocent protestors. Of course its a cover-up, and the only man who can represent Childers is Col. Hays Hodges (Tommy Lee Jones), a retired Marine lawyer whose hide was saved by Childers in Vietnam. Their loyalty to each other and the Corps gives them strength to take on a White House smear campaign perpetrated by a malicious bean-counter. No surprises here, but there are some riveting moments, and Jackson and Jones crackle whenever theyre on screen. Wait for video.
