One of the best animated movies to come out since Toy Story 2, Shrek delivers what you’d expect a big budget, computer-animated movie to. When it comes to DVDs, anything effects-heavy usually translates into tons of supplemental material. And that is the case here. Starting with a great Special Features menu (you get to torture the Gingerbread Man), there’s access to tons of fun stuff. We can’t explain why, but fake animated outtakes are funny. Stuff like the HBO documentary and the karaoke feature are fun but get annoying quickly. The deleted scenes are unique in that they were never even animated—what you get is an artist literally walking you through the scene using rough drawings and funny voices. Finally, while in the Special Features section, move the cursor so it highlights the Gingerbread Man’s gum-drop buttons. Click and you’ll get one of a series of random Shrek Fun Facts. Overall, a fun disc for a funny movie.
