Better than the first in nearly every way, Shrek 2 bolstered its supporting cast (John Cleese, Julie Andrews, Jennifer Saunders, and especially scene thief Antonio Banderas) and crammed in more intentional laughs than any summer movie not called Anchorman (the unintentional laughs title is a tossup between Van Helsing and Catwoman). So get in touch with your inner child (slow down, Jackowe said inner child), and give this one another viewing, if only to catch all the subtle jokes you missed the first time. (The giant-gingerbread-man sequence alone manages to cram in references to Blazing Saddles, Ghostbusters, Godzilla, and E.T. Wow.) Dont miss the all-new Far, Far Away Idol special in the extras, either, with an animated Simon Cowell and a crooning
gulp
Larry King.
