The sci-fi throwback Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow whisked us away to a world full of power-mad scientists, giant killer robots, and enough blue screen technology to fill in Jude Law's butt chin. And behind the brainpower of a small army of effects supervisors, as well as the star-power of Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Angelina Jolie, the finished product delivered on its hype. With all of the movie's many technical accomplishments come a flurry of technical featurettes in the extras—just beware, some of these programmers have less personality than an iPod ad. Watch the film evolve in the hour-long "Brave New World"—from the six-minute short to postproduction computer work—including shots of confused actors running through scenes in an empty studio and computer nerds on the brink of tears as postproduction nears the end of a second year. "The Art of the World of Tomorrow" picks the crew's brain on characters, set design, and costume design, while a gag reel catches Law, Paltrow, and a host of animated extras cracking up on set. The original six-minute short is also provided in its entirety, so you can see what the world of tomorrow looked like eight years ago.
