It’s time to get your geek week freak on! Star Trek: Nemesis hits theaters with Lord of the Rings: Two Towers following just days after. Celebrate good times, c’mon!

In this latest Trek installment, the Next Generation crew (Picard, No. 1, Deanna Troi, Worf, Data, Geordi, and even the good doctor) take to the stars again to confront an old enemy, the Romulans. Though the franchise’s films generally never really rise beyond the level of one of the better television episodes (that is to say, quality sci-fi with a side of ham and cheese), the effects here are bigger, the laughs are more frequent, and the geek factor is just more satisfying overall. The usual implausibilities show up in Nemesis; for instance, why isn’t Data the away team rather than just a member of it—if we had an android, hell if we’re going down to explore some unruly planet. But all is forgiven by the film’s frequent saves. In particular, you can’t miss the exceptional performance of Tom Hardy (Black Hawk Down) as the desperate Romulan leader, Shinzon. And in one cringe-worthy love scene—aw, damn, we’re not going to tell you. Just go see it and have a good time.
