Releasing yet another T2 DVD may seem as worthwhile as releasing another Terminator movie. (Ahem.) But in all seriousness, watching the hostile takeover of postapocalyptic Earth by brutal killing machines loses its geniality after the 74th, maybe 75th viewing. Yet, somehow, T2—Extreme adds enough new footage and CGI-related behind-the-scenes dork-porn to make this another welcome addition to your DVD pile…of previous T2 DVD releases. Get inside the painstaking efforts behind the CG special effects in director James Cameron’s The Abyss that inspired the creation of Arnie’s nemesis in T2, the mellifluous T-1000. Naturally, you can also watch the movie again, but this time with a running commentary along the bottom of the screen detailing how each location was shot as well as specifying what’s real and what’s digital. Then, branch off into mini-featurettes for specific scenes before dropping right back into the movie. There’s even new footage from the set of T2—our personal favorite involves Arnold Schwarzenegger accidentally smacking Eddie Furlong in the face with his trusty sawed-off.
