Why is that the movies no one remembers seeing come out with best DVD packages? Buckaroo Banzai, a cult film by which others are measured, attempts to erase all memory of its previous DVD incarnation with this Special Edition, and the results are impressive.
Director W.D. Richter provides interviews, commentary, deleted scenes, and just about everything else you can imaginethe whole time coming across like one of the rabid geeks whove been writing Hong Kong Cavaliers fan fiction since 1984, which is both good and bad; good in that he obviously loves this movie and wants people to rediscover it (and they shouldthis has got to be one of the strangest movies ever made), but its bad in that he teeters on the edge of delusional. This guy doesnt attend sci-fi conventions, he seems to live them. While this will make anyone with a Banzai Web site drool, it touches too close to Trekkiedom for the casual fans comfort. But, we dont want to discourage Richter or any other director willing to gives us amazing DVDs like this, so lets hear it for the fanboys!
