Based on a true story, The Affair of the Necklace follows the struggle of a French aristocrat (Hilary Swank) to regain her familys honor and her place in society. Through her actions, she somehow manages to speed up the start of the French Revolution, which is a welcome development since youll spend most of the movie wishing all these whiny rich bastards would die. The only exception is Christopher Walken, whos creepy as ever as a psychic Count, complete with a waxed moustache and Dracula wig.
One last note: Maybe this is wrong of us, but we just dont buy Hilary Swank as a woman anymore. After Boys Dont Cry, we cant help but think her feminine frocks conceal a flannel shirt and realistic strap-on. Maybe this speaks to her believability as an actress, but more likely, it just reinforces our theory that this Oscar winners career will one day be limited to sideshow appearances at drag king bars.
