Release Date:
03/07/2008
Directed by: Roger Donaldson
What it Promises:
A slick heist film with British accents and a retro-70s sheen (read: hairier, drunker, beige-er)
What it Delivers:
Exactly that. Jason Statham tones down his Transporter/Crank-ness (well, with the exception of one scene) for this based-on-a-true-story flick about a bunch of regular blokes and a femme fatale who knock over a bank and stumble into a political scandal. The Bank Job is funny, tense, and loaded with twists.
Best Part:
The heist itself. The tension keeps ramping up, and you sit there wondering if the gang's dumb luck will be enough to save their collective asses.
Worth the money?
Definitely. We can never resist a good crime thriller, and this has a healthy sense of fun without ever venturing into Ocean's Eleven goofiness. See? Statham doesn't always have to dragonkick a helicopter to keep you entertained.
