Men and wolves don’t mix

The Pitch: A group of grizzled oil pipe workers headed by Liam Neeson must outsmart wolves to survive the unforgiving Alaskan wilderness after a plane crash.

What It Really Is: It starts off with jolts of unrelenting action, violence and terror...then it gets boring. The Grey takes its cue from the underrated The Edge, where Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin battle a bear, but when the wolves aren’t attacking it’s like an over-sentimental dude soap opera. Neeson is good as always, but you can tell this barely kept him awake.

Does Blu-ray Make a Difference? Yes. Though some of the scenes are complete whiteouts, the extra sharpness enhances the grainy tundra atmosphere. Plus, we’re suckers for wild wolves in HD.
