Koreans sure know how to make fucked-up movies. Unlike the lame Japanese films where a kid painted white crawls through sheets, this is an old-fashioned monster movie that's creepy and smart. Part Godzilla and part Tremors, a huge fish-like thing, which is the result of the U.S. Army dumping formaldehyde in the Han River, is terrorizing Seoul. A family that's grown apart is forced back together to fight. At times the environmental issues and America being the bad guys are a bit heavy-handed, but it's worth overlooking because there's tons of gooey monster action. If you're interested, there's also a ton of extras. They were a bit too much for us because our eyes got tired of reading subtitles, but we did like the part where the director apologized to everyone he cut from the movie. Those Korean directors can be real gentlemen…especially when their amphibious monsters puke up partially digested human remains. (By the way, when we looked up amphibious to make sure it means half-water-half-land creature, the Wikipedia photo looked a lot like the monster. Spooky!)
