With nary a cape, nor web-shooters, nor retractable claws, ex-Army hit man Aaron Hallam (Benicio Del Toro) negotiates forests, city streets, rivers, trams, bridges, and rapids with nothing but his nonmutant survival and hunting instincts in this tense hide-and-seek thriller. Scarred by atrocities witnessed during a crack mission in Serbia, Hallam can no longer switch off his psycho mind-set, so he disappears from society into the forests of Oregon. But when four deer hunters are brutally slain, former commando instructor L.T. Bonham (Tommy Lee Jones) is forced out of retirement to bring his former student to ground, giving rise to a classic battle between master and apprentice. Although there’s little in the way of special effects, the impressively choreographed fight scenes result in enough blood-splattering satisfaction to make Under Siege look like the type of tame Tommy Lee vehicle Men in Black II wanted to be.
