Sean Connery had Victorian literature in his sights for this blockbusted attempt at a summer action flick. Not surprisingly, the classic characters didnt translate to the contemporary big screen, resulting in a painfully ordinary effects orgy. More uninspired, page-burning trifle dominates the extras, headlined by commentary tracks from costume designers and makeup supervisors. (You know, the big stars.) The one effort worth bookmarking comes in the middle of Assembling the League, an otherwise average featurette of behind-the-scenes glimpses that sits you down in the makeup chair with actor Jason Flemyng as he transforms from Dr. Jeckyl to Mr. Hyde through the magic of prosthetics. Still, we suggest leaving this on the library stacks for some other illiterate sucker.
