Christian Bale lopped 60 pounds off his fighting weight to portray an insomniac machinist in this bizarro thriller set in L.A. As he gets closer to overcoming his sleep deprivation, things get weirder, until his life unwinds into a complicated mess of revelations that you'll need the extras to decipher. Deleted scenes offer different takes of the sickly-looking Bale, including one shot of the weary protagonist parading around the airport in search of a ticket out of his neverending nightmare. Few clues are revealed during the feature-length commentary with director Brad Anderson, which does less to help solve the flick's riddles and much more to help solve sleep deprivation. The most interesting featurette, "Breaking the Rules," goes behind the cameras during filming. Catch the cast and crew working tirelessly to make Barcelona look like downtown L.A., Anderson barking orders from a gurney after throwing his back out during production, and Bale revealing the secret to his weight loss. (Who needs Jenny Craig when you have tuna and cigarettes?)
