Trust your director.“Adventureland is director Greg Mottola’s big follow-up to
Superbad, plus it’s based on his own experiences working at an amusement park when he was a kid, so I had to come correct. But I remembered from being in
Superbad that he’s a breeze to work with. He’ll throw you something, you run with it, and it ends up in the movie. There were so many scenes where, when I first saw
Superbad, I was like, ‘Whoa, he kept that in?’”
Get into your character’s mustache.“When you put on the mustache, there’s really only one direction to go. I play Bobby, who runs Adventureland with his wife, Paulette, played by my
SNL cast mate Kristen Wiig. We decided that, in the off-season, they swing. That’s just the kind of people they are.”
Channel past traumatic experiences.“I never had a job at an amusement park, but I used to work in a movie theater. One time I told some girls who were being rude to me the end of
Titanic. I was like, ‘Leo dies at the end. Oh, and the old lady has the diamond that they’re looking for the whole time. Enjoy the movie!’ My boss just said, ‘You’re fired.’”
Adventureland opens April 3rd.
