Ever since it was announced that Guy Ritchie (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, RockNRolla) was going to take a stab at bringing Sherlock Holmes back to the big screen with Robert Downey Jr. in the title role and Jude Law as loyal sidekick Dr. Watson, interest has been extremely high. Judging from early stills, Downey and Ritchie weren't going to be giving us the stodgy, silly-hat wearing detective we're used to—instead, this Holmes was going to be a lean, mean, disheveled eccentric genius.
Well, now we can finally see what's in store for us, as Warner Bros. debuts the first trailer for the movie (set for release this December). What do you think? It is badass? Silly? A crime against literature? A fun romp? From these early glimpses, it could very well be all of the above…
Sherlock Holmes opens this Christmas.

Holmes as an action hero? What an incredibly stupid idea! And they should ban the sentence 'Tomorrow the world as you know it will end' from all public communication, including movies, news casts, newspaper/magazine articles, etc.

Well, adding a high fantasy element, the end of the world plotlines, etc., to the Sherlock Holmes mythology won't hurt it. The Holmes franchaise is indestructible! Bravo, Walson!
