I think the difference between "remake" and "reboot" might be lost on you, Eric. I think a remake is taking a movie and improving on it with better production values and special effects and, perhaps, modifying the storyline subtly. Chainsaw is a good example of a reboot, and even Hallowe'en is a fair example. Rebooting, I would suggest, deviates further from the original as regards story lines and in some cases, even origins, to create new stories using the same characters but create some inconsistencies as a result. The Batman movies are a good example of such a reboot. Neither, however, take liberties with the iconic properties of the franchises on which they build. To suggest that Freddy should be in a different sweater is to suggest that Jason should be without hockey mask or Michael without rubber mask. I would submit that you would be better to watch an entirely original movie rather than either a reboot or a remake if addressing your complaints would satisfy you as a critic.

i am 40 yrs old i have seen the orignals dozens of times and love them but I hink it looks really good JW said it all i will run to the theatre to see it. and katie cassidy is a major bonus for all of our viewing pleasure

I can't wait to see it. Our kids can enjoy truly great movies with better effects and quality. If this is the kind of critic you are... maybe you should attend a course or two in film making before actually publishing your dumb comments.

The bottom line is someone is going to make money off this because this franchise has made money in the past and the people in hollywood have already tested the waters (texas chainsaw, jason, halloween) and have found that people are dumb enough to pay $10 a ticket (and buy the dvd) to watch an idea that has already been thought out. This is further proof that americans don't want to think, but be entertained into a mind numbing stuper.

i think the thing is to say remake or reboot is not the word y not instead just say modernize because as we all know these a legends of american horror of the past those movies from the seventies and eighties are no longer relevant to the times so now in this new age all the villians of yester year have been given a face lift and in my opinion minus robert englund's freddy i think the new charcter's would kick the old ones ass like freddy,jason, and leather face have all been turned into goliaths that in summary would cause the average person to shit their pants if they were real and thats what it is about convincing the audience that they are not real but if they were it would happen alot like this
