Since we know time is money, here's a quick handy reference guide to recent DVD releases that should be on your radar and, in many cases, on your shelf. Immediately.

Superman/Batman: Public Enemies (Blu-Ray)
Release Date: September 29
What it is: When notorious villain Lex Luthor gets elected President of the U.S., DC Comics' favorite buddy cops team up to bring da noise. YEEEEEAH, BOYEEEE!
Why you need it: DC's animated movies have been rocking the shit lately (Wonder Woman, Batman: Gotham Knight, Green Lantern) and this PG-13 teaming of the big two has a great look and a surprisingly gritty storyline. An early cemetery throwdown between Supes, Bats and Metallo is especially hardcore.

The Wizard of Oz: 70th Anniversary Collection (Blu-Ray)
Release Date: September 22
What it is: The movie that introduced the world to a cinematic revolution: Little people! (OK, OK, technicolor). It's 70 years old this year, and it's time to Blu-Ray it up.
Why you need it: Not the manliest DVD set in your collection, clearly, but this is one of those classics you'll want to have around for family-movie night. And the 70th Anniversary Box Set is staggering—a massive and classy package that will make you an instant Friend of Dorothy. (snicker)

The Dark Crystal/Labyrinth (Blu-Ray)
Release Date: September 22
What it is: In keeping with the "unmanly" theme of the week, we present two of Jim Henson's non-Muppet fantasy films, new to Blu-Ray. One, a story of a lost world torn between good and evil, the other about David Bowie thrusting his codpiece at an underage Jennifer Connelly.
Why you need it: Again, these are classics that really do benefit from an HD upgrade. It reminds you of a simpler time when fantasy movies could be fun and nonsensical, and not four-hour dirges with lots of walking.
