Since we know time is money, here's a quick handy reference guide to recent DVD releases that should be on your radar and, in many cases, on your shelf. Immediately.

Terminator Salvation (Blu-Ray)
Release Date: December 1
What it is: A new beginning for the Terminator franchise, this is a prequel that takes place after the events of the first trilogy. Got that? Basically, Salvation shows us the rise of the machines. Not that it should be confused with Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. Aw, to hell with it.
Why you need it: Despite it's somewhat unfair critical drubbing, Salvation was actually one of the more fun and entertaining movies of the summer. Give it another shot, we guarantee you'll find something you like. While the movie's khaki color scheme isn't brightened for Blu-Ray, the format does allow for the "Maximum Movie Mode" which is by far the best mutation of the "audio commentary" we've seen yet.

Funny People (Blu-Ray)
Release Date: November 24
What it is: Judd Apatow hasn't actually directed a movie since Knocked Up, his ubiquitous producer credits notwithstanding. Here, he returns with the tale of a successful comedian (Adam Sandler) who is re-evaluating his life while mentoring a young stand-up (Seth Rogen).
Why you need it: It's not as hilarious as some of Apatow's other outings, but it has its moments. Plus, the special features provide a cavalcade of comedian cameos that collected casually on the cutting room floor. We also think the commentary is worth a listen, because the movie is at its best when it's providing intimate details about the life of a struggling joke slinger.

SERIOUSLY, YOU NEED THIS:

The Steve Coogan Collection
Release Date: November 24
What it is: A mammoth 13-disc set celebrating British comedian Steve Coogan's many BBC series, including Saxondale, Coogan's Run, and the untouchable comedy genius that is Alan Partridge.
Why you need it: If you haven't seen any of Alan Partridge, we seriously recommend buying this entire set just for this character (who appears in the chat show spoof Knowing Me, Knowing You as well as two seasons of I'm Alan Partridge). it is that good. What more can we say really? Other than: Jurassic Park!
