I think freed slave is listed below because at that time in history a free slave had even fewer rights than a prison inmate.

Seriously. SLAVE is below pimp and convict but freed slave is most definitely not.

To ansrew the free'd slave v's Pimp,/Inmate question, who would you rather get into a fight over social standing with, some one who's spent a life time being told what to do or some one who's spent a life time doing exactly the oposite of what they've been told to do and doesn't think twice about breaking the law, resorting to violence? Free'd slave might be moraly higher, but in practical terms it's the Pimp/Convict every time, or to put it anougther way, 'that mans got a gun, do what he say's till we can get it of him'.

I had the great pleasure of seeing Mr. Freeman live on stage at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis in the play, "Gospel at Colonnus" before I saw him in "Glory". I knew then he was a gifted actor. He is one of our best. A salute to you sir!
