It's official: The Silence of the Lambs DVDs have more lives than Hannibal Lecter. This is now the third incarnation of this movie on DVD, one of which was Criterion, often referred to as the gold standard among special editions. Why now? Because they're putting out a horrible-looking prequel, Hannibal Rising, and want to milk every last unblinking stare from Hannibal's soul. This doesn't necessarily interfere with the fact that it's a pretty complete collection, especially for those who missed the other versions. They left out the commentary, but added a lot of documentaries to sink your teeth into. We appreciate the effort, but it's time to let the good doctor rest in peace. You know, until the 20th-super-fava-bean anniversary collector's editon!
