You don’t need to be told to buy this. But in case you tried to top Homer’s record for shoving crayons up your nose as a child, let us inform you what you’re missing. The third season of The Simpsons marks the point at which the show forced its way into relevance with episodes sporting such musical icons as Michael Jackson, Aerosmith, and Spinal Tap; one-shot characters like Krusty’s dad (Jackie Mason) and Homer’s half-brother (Danny DeVito); and a guest appearance by Neil Patrick Harris! On top of meandering commentary for each classic episode (one writer even goes so far as to call Mrs. Krabapple “sexy”), the extras include plenty of additional material that’ll make your stay in Springfield a pleasant one. Take a stroll down Madison Avenue with crispety, crunchety Butterfinger spots, relive a proud moment in the show’s history with a clip from Bart’s first Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade appearance, or check out preliminary sketches during select episodes. There’s even a “pop-up” episode full of facts and a feature that lets you count the “D’ohs!” Not that any of this matters—do you really need a reason to own 24 more uncut episodes of The Simpsons?
