The Transformers: Complete Season One Box Set

Release Date:
04/23/2002
Star Rating:
★★★★½
We understand that most of you, although you have fond memories of transformable trucks and planes, aren’t exactly running out to purchase a four-disc set of a children’s cartoon. That’s actually a shame, because not only is this box set as deluxe as they come, but because the term “collectible” was coined so that men could forever mask their refusal to mature beyond that “giant robot phase.” Take advantage. Rhino has gathered not only every episode from the series’ inaugural season, but tons of cool supplemental stuff, ranging from clips of the original Japanese show (which is almost unrecognizable) to blown takes and animation mistakes. Hell, for most of us, just hearing that opening theme music will bring back memories. If you have kids, you can use the excuse of introducing them to one of your favorite shows. If not, well, remember that old “collectible” thing—you aren’t childish, you’re a connoisseur. Autobots, transform and roll out!
