Since we know time is money, here's a quick handy reference guide to recent DVD releases that should be on your radar and, in many cases, on your shelf. Immediately.

Sons of Anarchy: Season Two
Release Date:August 31
What it is: The FX series about a biker gang/family and their wacky gun-running, Aryan nation-fighting, back-stabbing, and murdering misadventures. Stars Hellboy Ron Pearlman and former Peggy Bundy Katey Sagal.
Why you need it: DVD is a great excuse for catching series you might otherwise not make time for, and Sons is definitely worth catching up on. Like the Sopranos with more leather, it's gritty, violent, and engrossing. The DVD and Blu-ray come loaded with extras, too—all 13 episodes along with a gag reel, some deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes and more. A solid package, and a criminally underrated show.

Harry Brown
Release Date:August 31
What it is: Michael Caine stars as an old ex-soldier living in a slummy apartment block that has been taken over by violent youths. When his good friend is murdered, Caine's Harry gets dirty.
Why you need it: Given a small theatrical release in the States, the odds are good you missed Harry Brown on the big screen. Luckily, it's a tight, almost claustrophobic movie that plays just as well at home. Although the DVD isn't packed with extras, there is a suprisingly funny and quip-heavy commentary (which is often at odds with the violence and pessimism on screen) with Caine and director Daniel Barber. A really, really good flick. Check it out. But don't just take our word for it—take Michael Caine's.
