Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke. Thats got to be the most unlikely pairing since Michael Jackson kissed an adult woman. But somehow, it worked, since Training Day is a good cop on the edge thriller that, despite its lame ending, managed to snag both guys Oscar nominations.
The DVD allows you to see what you missed, or take a second look at what all the hype is about. For the most part, the Training Day disc provides enough to back it all up. Not convinced Denzel turned a cliché role into something special? Check out the deleted scenes. Theres even more of his Alonzo Harris fucking with the head of newbie Jake Hoyt. By the same token, the alternate ending proves that an editors instincts are sometimes right on (the theatrical ending is far superior). Since director Antoine Fuqua (The Replacement Killers) lends a commentary track, you wont need too much convincing that this is a worthwhile DVD for your collection.
