We’ve all been there before: knocking back shots at a bar, finishing up the wine bottle at home, then passing out on the couch…only to wake up the next morning spooning a bloodied corpse. (OK, maybe you can swap in a fat chick for the stiff.) Such is the plight of newly promoted homicide detective Jessica Shepard (Ashley Judd), who’s not your typical female cop—picking up strangers at bars, drinking excessively, assaulting fellow officers. So, when the dead and savagely beaten bodies of her suitors begin turning up (in her bed, in the river, in our theater), suspicion immediately shifts toward Shephard. A morbid and grisly whodunnit, Twisted is undone by a mangled story line and too many unnecessary, ahem, twists. But stick around for Ashley Judd’s raucous Martin Riggs impression; just don’t get too close.
