Fresh off of George A. Romero's return to theaters, the funeral home business takes another hit—and this time, the zombies have funny accents. Undead tries a different approach to waking the dead when meteors pepper a small Australian town, spreading a disease that gives the locals an appetite for flesh, brains, and Fosters. But when spaceships begin stalking the skies, they give the few remaining survivors more to worry about than great grandma coming back for seconds. The blood starts spilling early and often, and the movie's low budget combined with a goofy premise had us hoping for a cult horror flick worthy of Bruce Campbell. As the action starts to escalate, the movie treads closer to bad-meaning-good territory with flying zombie fish, smart-ass aliens, and buckets of crudely mixed fake blood. Unfortunately, heart-felt performances from its stars evoke a '40s B-movie vibe over the flick's second half and left us hungry for the good times that customarily accompany flesh-eating cadavers.
