Legendary director Stanley Kubrick is honored properly and perfectly on DVD. Though he slipped up at the end of his career by making the virtually unwatchable Eyes Wide Shut, this 10-disc set includes all of his classics looking better than they ever had and each in special edition glory. There's two-disc versions of 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, and The Shining; the rated and unrated version of Eyes Wide Shut (OK three out of four ain't bad); a one-disc special edition of Full Metal Jacket; and the Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures documentary, which tells us more than we ever knew about the most obsessive director in the history of film. Each of the special editions have commentaries from either cast members or film historians, the most recognizable are Malcolm McDowell for Clockwork and R. Lee Ermey and Vincent D'Onofrio on Jacket. Since Kubrick's death, it's clear the actors and crew are more than willing to be honest. There's no genuine ill will, but many have a lot to say about the 30-plus takes for each scene and films scheduled to shoot in 18 weeks that dragged on for upward of 18 months. Check the complete special features roster below, which is just as valuable as attending film school without the six-figure tuition and the stuck-up spoiled poseurs.
